What is PAS 1880 – Control systems for automated vehicles about?
It sets out control system guidelines for automated vehicle (AV) developers. PAS 1880:2020 is one in a series commissioned by The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) to support the development of CAVs in the UK and help shape the future of international standards in this area.
Who is PAS 1880 – Control systems for automated vehicles for?
Why should you use PAS 1880 – Control systems for automated vehicles?
This document provides a set of initial guidelines for developers of control systems for the safe, secure and effective deployment of automated vehicles (AVs). It covers AVs that are capable of moving passengers and/or goods, without human intervention, within defined operational design domains.
PAS 1880:2020 does not cover general techniques for achieving functional safety in AVs; instead, reference is made to related standards for information about?
such matters. Nor does it cover off-road machinery in any detail. However, some of the existing standards in this sector are considered in Annex D.
NOTE: For further information on general techniques for achieving functional safety in AVs see ISO 26262.
PAS 1880:2020 contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 on building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation, because it supports the introduction of resilient, sustainable and innovative automated vehicles. It also contributes to Goal 11 on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable because it can help ensure that automated vehicles are safe.
